This may be one of my favorite pieces I’ve painted yet. Not because it’s stellar art, I never think my work is particularly great, but because of its power.
The energy in it trumps all.
This is a commissioned piece for a lovely woman with Fibromyalgia painted by a woman with Multiple Sclerosis (that’s me!)
There’s some awesome magic that happens when that kind of synergistic energy comes together. Two strong, fighting, bitches! (I take no offense to that word, bitches get shit done.)
This isn’t her first box commission, and this time she wanted something different. “Something creepy,” she said. “I’m not picky.”
That’s the easiest way to work. Free reign.
I set out to figure out what “something creepy” would mean in this instance, and the box pretty much took its own personality. So, it went Gonzo. It still wound up with that edge of mysticism that some may call creepy. I call it just right.
The owner is a wonderful advocate for medicinal cannabis and is an active member of NORMAL.
Whatever she keeps in this box, may it be blessed.
Actual painting size is 2.5×5″. Vintage cedar box with carved detailing.
Art Nouveau meets Gonzo style.
Hand Painted, vintage cedar boxes.
